Summer Homeowner’s Insurance

With summer coming up in just a few weeks, we’ve put together a list of the main reasons why having a good homeowner’s insurance policy in the summer is important:

Summer Wild Fires

Fire can happen no matter where you live, and when it does it can spread quickly and cause hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage. Obviously in summer the risk for fire is much higher than in the other seasons, and depending on how the weather is this year we could see a dramatic increase in wild fire outbreaks in our area. Having a good homeowner’s insurance policy to cover you incase of a fire outbreak is extremely important, especially in the summer.

Bodily Injury

As the sun starts to come out it usually means that people start spending time out doors and becoming more adventurous. The kids are out of school and busy playing outside in the backyard. Liability claims raise significantly in the summer time just because people have more time to go outside and and try new things. Make sure you have liability coverage on your home insurance policy to cover you if someone were to get hurt at your home.

Theft

Summer time is usually vacation time. This means that it also is typically the “high” season for theft. Thieves target homes when they look like the occupants are on vacation. Make sure you have enough theft protection on your homeowner’s insurance policy to cover your most precious belongings if someone were to break in to your house and steal them.

Summer Storms

Summer storms produce more lighting that winter storms typically do. Lighting can easily start fires and damage properties as quickly as they strike. If your home is in an area prone to lighting, consider installing a lightning rod to take the blow for any strikes and go over your home owners insurance policy with a qualified agent to be sure you’d be covered if a fire were to break out.
